PGD Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis
During Preimplantation genetic diagnosis a hole is made into the zona pelucida and a pipette is used to remove one cell out of the 8-cell stage of the embryo (blastomere biobsy). The opening of the zona pelucida is mostly done by a specific laser drilling system.
Aim is to check for specific genetic abnormality e.g. cystic fibrosis, aneuploidy.
