Leica DM5000 B

Research microscope system for life science

Overview

Brilliant, Easy Imaging at the Speed of Light!

The automated microscope for life science research

The intelligent automated microscope for sophisticated research applications. With coded 7x nosepiece, manual z-focus, fully automated DIC, and 5x or 8x fluo axis.
In addition to the contrasting methods of Leica DM4000 B (bright-/darkfield, phase, polarization contrast – all fully automated), our Leica DM5000 B features a fully automated differential interference contrast (DIC) as well. With the worlds first absolute reproducible shearing and bias values.
Particular comfort is offered by the touch-sensitive LeicaScreen to control the microscope. Dedicated software solutions together with the motorized fluo axis make the Leica DM5000 B ideal for advanced fluorescence applications of fixed or life cells, and tissues.

Optical brilliance based on pathbreaking technics !

As for all automated Leica DigitalMicroscopes the transmitted light axis features automated aperture andfield diaphragms as well as Leica’s CCIC. The Constant Colour Intensity Control automatically maintains the colour temperature at the same level even when the lamp voltage is changed.

The worlds first fully automated Differential Interference Contrast
The DIC of the Leica DM5000 B is unbeaten with respect to homogeneity and brilliance. Even for untrained microscopists the results are always breathtaking. No circumstantial plying with sliders or lose prisms, manual polarizers and analysers. Always the correct combination of prisms for best image quality. Users can select different shearing according to the specimen. And of course- the individual bias is stored for each objective and prism combination and can be restored whenever needed.

Fluorescence axis with FIM and optional internal filterwheel
In addition to the well known FIM (Fluorescence Intensity Manager) of the Leica DM4000 B the DM5000 B can be equipped with a fast internal filterwheel for use in combination with a triple filter cube.
Ease of use due to intelligent automation !

The intelligent automation of the Leica DM5000 B is based on “electronical managers” for various purposes. Common for all these managers is their flexibility and the perfect adaptation to the users preferences. All settings are memorized and provide therefore absolute reproducible results.

Contrast Manager
Benefit from the speed and the accuracy of the Contrast Manager. It supports all transmitted light and fluorescence contrasting methods and allows to switch from one contrast to another just by one button click. Depending on the selected objective all necessary adjustments are done automatically. In the case of Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) the values of shearing and bias are stored together with each objective to offer reproducible results.

Illumination Manager
Our DigitalMicroscopes automatically recognize the contrasting technique and objective that is currently in use. And of course it memorizes automatically the last used settings for this combination and recalls them. There's no need to adjust circumstantially any more diaphragms or the light intensity values- just another example how Leica’s microscope managers ease your work.

Variable Function Keys
You can assign any function you like to the six new function keys. Due to their convenient position, frequently used functions are always within easy reach. Create your own tailor- made microscope control

Integrated Leica SmartTouch
Integrated in the base of the microscope , ergonomically placed is the unique Leica SmartTouch touchscreen. All motorized functions can be easily controlled and monitored.

Leica STP6000
The new, external Leica STP6000 SmartTouch Panel offers a new level of operational freedom to the researcher. All automated microscope functions can be conveniently and intuitively set from anywhere within the workspace via the external control, which provides the same graphical user interface as Leica Application Suite (LAS) software. Also, the Leica SmartTouch Panel offers a focus wheel for fine and coarse adjustment, controls for x, y stage adjustment, and eleven programmable function buttons.
Leica DM5000 B Fluorescence system based on Leica’s expertise !

The Leica DM5000 B offers a fully motorized 5 fold or 8 fold fluorescence axis. The brilliant fluorescence images are based on Leica’s light trap to reduce background and zero pixel shift fluorescence cubes. But nowadays you can expect more from the leading supplier of fluorescence systems. Convince yourself.

Fast Internal Filter wheels
In addition to the well known FIM (Fluorescence Intensity Manager) of the Leica DM4000 B the DM5000 B can be equipped with an internal filter wheel. It is used in combination with a triple or double filter cube. The filter wheel combines high-speed with vibration free movement for ultra-fast change of excitation light.

Motorized and coded Excitation Manager
For triple or double stained immunofluorescence samples the intensities of different fluorochromes is always an issue for researchers. With the “Excitation Manager” the intensities can be carefully balanced by means of optical reduction or enhancement of particular excitation light. And furthermore the values can be stored and restored for reproducible results.

Ultrafast external filter wheels
A wide variety of Leicas ultrafast external filterwheels support sophisticated fluorescence application up to calcium-ratio imaging and FRET. Both application require speed and superior imaging performance. Fully integrated in Leica AF6000 fluorescence software as a seamless solution from one hand.

New Fluorescence lamp
The new external light source Leica EL6000 is a plug and play fluorescence lamp with a life span of approximately 2000h. No time consuming adjustments needed anymore. In additionthe Leica EL6000is equipped with a ultrafast shutter-of course fully integrated in the microscope control either direct or via software.

Documentation devices
For the Leica DM5000 B a broad variety of documentation tubes is available. With one or two camera exits. Optional also as motorized variant allowing the fast switching form a high speed black and white camera to a high resolution colour camera. Ideal prerequisite for switching between immunofluorescence and life cell imaging.
Platform for demanding applications based on innovation competence

A harmonized integration of hardware and software is the “sine qua non” for demanding applications. Leica as provider of microscopes, cameras and software is able to meet these demands from one source.

LAS (Leica Application Suite)
For multi purpose use the free of charge LAS core software for microscope and camera control can be upgraded with various modules. Hence different applications can be perfectly suited. Starting from basic imaging up to leading edge multi channel fluorescence imaging and measurement tools.

Advanced Fluorescence workstation Leica AF6000
The new Leica AF6000 software has been designed to meet even the highest demanding fluorescence applications. Ultrafast, multidimensional fluorescence imaging, deconvolution, and 3D display are just a few examples of the wide spectrum of application solutions offered by the Leica AF6000 software.

The right camera for all applications
The Leica DFC range of digital cameras offers the right camera for every requirement. From general to specific, our cameras are ideal: colour or grey-level pictures of fluorescence specimens or pathological materials. The camera chips feature up to 12 mega pixel image resolution.
